Hello
I'm D.L. My hope is that you enjoy my first novel, a story that is near and dear to my heart. Like Maeve, I haven't always been particularly courageous. I wanted to write a story to inspire those, who like me, know that there's a hero or heroine deep within, but who often find themselves hindered by their own fears or anxieties. My choice to write this book is a step toward being more courageous in my own life and I hope it inspires you to do the same in yours, no matter what your dreams are calling you to do.
The Backstory
How Maeve's Fantastical Adventure Began
On a summer morning in 2024, I awoke to vivid visions of a dream playing in my head and I knew I had to write it all down. What should have taken no more than an hour turned into a dawn-to-dark endeavor. The story itself took on a life of its own, with Maeve, the reluctant heroine, at the center of the adventures. Before I knew it, I was writing daily as inspiration for Maeve's journey flowed from my fingertips onto my keyboard. One year later, after much devotion and dedication to Maeve and her story, my husband and I were on our own mission to publish the novel. Bringing Maeve's story to life was among the most enjoyable experiences of my life!
A Little More About Me
My background is in education, and I enjoyed many years of inspiring young minds. But as my teaching career began winding down, I became filled with creative urges--urges that had been calling me for years. Among those aspirations was writing and illustrating an inspirational children's book, as I had fallen in love with writing many years before in college. Coincidentally, I was blessed at that time with an amazing writing professor who believed in my abilities much more than even I did.
After recently leaving the teaching profession, I embraced a new chapter in my life—one that allows me to explore my creativity and enjoy the beauty of a simpler life. I currently reside in central Texas with my husband and our beloved dog, Harper, on a peaceful stretch of land where long walks, gardening, and spending time outdoors are part of my daily rhythm. Writing and other creative endeavors naturally fill up the rest of my time.
When we’re not soaking in the quiet of our country home, my husband and I are out enjoying the vibrant energy of the Hill Country area—especially live music, good food, and time with friends. We love star gazing, traveling to new destinations on our ever-growing bucket list, and spending cherished time with our daughter and son-in-law, who live nearby in Austin. Whether it’s a casual lunch, a lively football gathering, or a holiday celebration, our home is often filled with laughter, connection, and community. I am always amazed at the blessings that surround me!
Writing has become a way for me to serve and show my gratitude for all I've been given. It's a place where I can reflect, connect, and share the joys of life—both the quiet moments and the spirited adventures.
